Getting Started

How does the free trial actually work?

Your trial is free through the end of the calendar month you sign up in, and your first bill (if you choose to subscribe) is on the 1st of the following month. This means the exact number of free days depends on when in the month you sign up — signing up on the 1st gives you close to a full month free; signing up on the 30th gives you a shorter trial before your first bill. Either way, you keep full access to your own dashboard and categorization for as long as you use the app, whether or not you ever subscribe — see "Do I lose access if I don't subscribe?" below.

Do I need to set up Face ID or a passkey to use UncleLess?

Not to register or use most of the app — that's entirely optional, and you can turn it on anytime from your Profile. It IS required the first time you connect a bank or card account, as an extra layer of protection specifically for that step. If you haven't set one up yet, connecting your first account will prompt you to.

Why can't I connect my bank account right after I sign up?

You can — UncleLess will just ask you to verify with Face ID/fingerprint (or set one up, if you haven't) at that specific moment. This only applies to connecting accounts, not to using the rest of the app.

Connecting Accounts

What if my bank isn't supported, or I'd rather not connect it directly?

You can upload your bank or card statements instead (PDF, CSV, or a photographed/scanned page), and UncleLess will extract and categorize the transactions the same way. There's a daily limit on how many statements you can upload, and how far back you can backfill depends on what date range you've actually paid for.

Can I link the same bank account to two different UncleLess businesses?

No — an account can only ever be linked to one UncleLess business at a time. If you need to move it, it has to be released from the first business before it can be linked to another.

What happens if I mark an account as "Personal Only"?

UncleLess disconnects its bank feed entirely — your existing data stays exactly as it is, but new transactions stop syncing. To switch it back to business use later, just reconnect it through your bank again.

Daily Tally & Categorization

Why don't all my transactions show up in Daily Tally?

Daily Tally is a fallback for transactions the app isn't fully confident about — most transactions are categorized automatically the moment they sync, without ever needing your input, so you're not stuck swiping through every single one, especially with multiple accounts or a full year of history. Everything is still visible and editable in your ledger regardless of whether it went through Tally.

I made a mistake categorizing something — can I fix it?

Yes, always. Open the transaction and change its category or business/personal status any time — nothing is ever locked. If that transaction had already been sent to your CPA, the correction reaches them with your next send, marked Changed.

Sending to Your CPA

What does "Send to CPA" actually do?

It shares your categorized, business-tagged transactions with your linked CPA — either by syncing directly into their UncleLess workspace, or by emailing them a file if they don't use UncleLess themselves. It does not lock your data — see the question above.

If I correct a transaction after I've already sent it, does my CPA find out?

Yes — the next time you send. Your CPA works only from the records you've sent, never from your live data. If you change something you already sent, it reaches your CPA with your next send, marked Changed, so they can see exactly what's different. The Send to CPA screen shows how many records are new or changed since your last send before you press Send.

Can I see what I've already sent my CPA?

Yes. Every send is saved. Open Sent to CPA from your dashboard to see each send — when it went, how many records were in it, and what was new, changed or removed compared with the one before — and tap a send to see exactly what was in it, grouped by category.

What if I switch to a different CPA?

Your previous CPA's access ends immediately, the moment you confirm the switch — not once the new CPA accepts. If the new CPA hasn't registered or accepted yet, there can be a short gap where no one has access to your records but you.

Can my CPA see everything in my account?

No. Your CPA can only ever see transactions you've explicitly tagged as business. Anything personal, anything excluded, and anything you haven't yet categorized is structurally invisible to them — not just hidden behind a setting.

Can my CPA change my records?

No — your records stay exactly as you left them. A CPA on a paid plan can add their own adjustments on top of what you sent — for example a different category, or "not deductible", always with a note. You get an in-app notification when they do, and you can see every change and note under Sent to CPA → CPA review. Your own dashboard and categories never change.

What date range can my CPA actually see?

Whatever you've actually paid for, not just "everything since you signed up." If you paid for two months and then canceled, your CPA sees exactly those two months — not the months before or after, even if you resubscribe later and the periods don't connect. See Pricing for the full billing model.

Billing

Do I lose access to the app if I don't subscribe?

No. Your dashboard, categorization, search and Daily Tally keep working whether or not you subscribe. During your free trial you can also send your records to your CPA. Once the trial ends, sending to your CPA and Download Expenses need a subscription; everything else stays free.

What happens if a payment fails?

You'll get an email and an in-app notification, and you'll have a chance to update your payment method before anything else changes.

Your Account & Data

What happens if I delete my account?

Your account is deactivated immediately and removed from active use. Your underlying records are retained afterward only as long as required by law and for legitimate business/audit purposes — see our Privacy Policy for the full detail — not indefinitely and not for active use.

For CPAs

Does it cost me anything to use UncleLess?

Viewing is free. Accepting a client's invite, viewing the records they send you, and downloading their ledger are always free. A CPA plan is needed for the premium tools: the Schedule C Workbook, scanning statements for paper clients, and adjusting a client's sent records (Change category, Mark not deductible or Exclude, each with a note).

What's a paper client?

A client who doesn't use UncleLess. Add them under Batch Scan, upload their bank and card statements (or receipt photos), review the lines UncleLess reads, and their ledger builds up just like an app-connected client's. Paper clients count toward your plan's client limit; app-connected clients never do. They're listed on your Clients tab with a Paper tag.

Why do I have to verify my identity every time I log in, even on a device I've used before?

CPA accounts have access to multiple clients' financial data, so every login requires a fresh verification step, regardless of device.
